Mock Immigration

All fourth grade students got to see what it was like for immigrants to come to America through Ellis Island.  Four rooms were set up: Room 1- All 86 fourth graders were gathered on a 8 by 10 rug to demonstrate how crowded their conditions were aboard the ships. From there they went to Room 2 where each child had a "medical exam." In Room 3 each student was fingerprinted and got their passport stamped. Finally, in Room 4 students were asked questions in a foreign language to get an idea of how immigrants felt coming into a foreign land not understanding the language.
